Free New Grad RN Resume Check
Hearing nothing back from your applications? Paste your resume or upload it, and see what to fix before you apply. Each result says what the check found and gives one plain fix.
Your resume is read once to run the check and is not saved.
What the Check Looks For
Each check comes from what California residencies ask for and from what we look for when we build new grad resumes. Each one works the same way every time.
- Email and Phone
- Both are on the page, so a recruiter can reach you. The check only says it found them.
- License or NCLEX Status
- One line that says where your license stands: licensed, NCLEX passed, scheduled or planned, or an interim permit.
- Degree and Graduation Date
- Your ADN, BSN or entry-level MSN, with the month and year you graduate.
- Clinical Rotations
- Each rotation with its unit and its hours.
- Total Clinical Hours
- Your total hours, stated once.
- Preceptorship or Capstone
- Its own heading, with the unit and the hours.
- BLS and Other Cards
- BLS, plus ACLS or PALS if you list them, each with a date.
- RN Title on Student Work
- No “RN” title or RN job words before your license is issued. An interim permit is not an RN license.
- Summary With the Unit You Want
- A short summary at the top that names the unit or specialty you want.
- Words That Overclaim
- Words like “expert,” “extensive” and “experienced in,” which a hiring manager cannot check.
- Nurse Wording
- No “I,” “my” or “me.” Write “IVPB,” “obtained vital signs” and “GPA 3.7.”
- Length
- One page for most new grads, judged by the number of words.
Common Questions
- Is My Resume Saved?
- No. It is read once to run the check, and then it is gone. We count how many checks run and which ones need a fix. We never keep the words in your resume.
- How Does the Check Work?
- It looks for set words and patterns, like a license line, a month and year, or a number of hours. It works the same way every time. When it is not sure, it says “Couldn’t Tell” so you can look for yourself.
- Can It Read My PDF or Word File?
- Yes, if the file has real text in it. A scanned PDF or a photo has no text to read, so paste the text instead.
